Race with Confidence

This is Helderberg’s showpiece, run on a beautiful undulating route through the winelands of Stellenbosch and Somerset West. Celebrating the 46th Winelands Marathon this year.

RACE RULES
1. This event is held under the rules and regulations of ASA and Western Province Athletics.
2. The Sportsmans Warehouse Winelands Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km are open to all licensed and non-licensed runners of 20 years and older for the marathon and 16 years and older for the half marathon and 14 years and older for the 10km on race day.
3. One race number (bib) will be issued. Registered athletes must wear their ASA licenses on front and back of their vest. The race number must be worn on the front of the vest, partially covering the ASA license, so that the ASA license sponsor remains visible. Temporary licensed runners must wear the race number on the front of their vest and the temporary license on the back. 10km is R60 for seniors and R40 for Juniors. (Under the age of 20 at 31st December / born 2006 or later)
4. Temporary licensed participants are eligible for age category prizes provided they enter the relevant age group, wear the appropriate age tags and provide proof of age. In addition to overall (Open) prizes, participants will only be eligible for an age category prize in the age category they enter. Corresponding numerical age category tags must be worn on the front and back of their club vest. Participants may enter the age category corresponding to their chronological age or any younger category down to senior.
5. Unlicensed runners must wear plain clothes (no advertising permitted). Licensed athletes to wear club colours.
6. Personal seconding is not permitted. Private vehicles are requested not to follow the athletes on the route.
7. To be eligible for any category prize, proof of age is required and age tags must be worn (front and back) and visible for the entire race.
8. No swopping of race numbers as the race number is linked to your name and finishing time and WILL result in your disqualification and disciplinary action.
9. Each race distance has a different race number range and colour with your data captured electronically. Do not transfer between races without notifying the race organisers by 9 Nov.
10. All traffic officers and marshals must be obeyed.
11. The race organisers reserve the right to accept or reject any entry.
12. Foreign athletes must comply with WA rules all relevant race and domestic rules.
13. All entry fees are non-refundable.
14. Kilometre markers will be placed at each kilometre mark.
15. Medals to finishers WITHIN THE CUT-OFF TIME.
16. Toilets will be available at the start and finish and at 25km’s & 36km’s.
17. The time limit will be 6hrs for the marathon, 3½hrs for the half marathon, 2hrs for the 10km and 1hr for the 5km. A 4 hour cut off for the marathon will be applied at 25,4 km on Steynsrust bridge. Transport back to the Finish will be provided for any runners cut off at this point.
18. Results will be available at www.finishtime.co.za, www.wpa.org.za and at www.topevents.co.za.
19. The use of music players with headphones is not allowed and may result in disqualification.
20. Detailed rules are available on www.wpa.org.za or on request from the organisers or the WPA office.
21. Wheelchair athletes to please contact the organisers timeously to make arrangements for their participation.
22. Free entries for runners over 70.
23. Temporary license holders when registering must complete and hand in the tear off strip from the number in order to be eligible to compete.
24. In an effort to be environmentally friendly, we supply Water at 17 stations and coke at 10 stations in cups. No sachets will be supplied.
25. Coke and water will be available at the finish.

NUMBER COLLECTION IS COMPULSORY FOR ALL ENTRANTS!
Number collections will take place on Friday 28th November 2025 from 10:00 – 18:00 at the following collection points:
• Sportsmans Warehouse Paarl
• Sportsmans Warehouse Rondebosch
• Sportsmans Warehouse Somerset West
• Sportsmans Warehouse Stellenbosch
• Sportsmans Warehouse Tygervalley
There will be NO collections on race day.

All entrants will receive a confirmation email when their entry has been processed (if an email address is provided).
Prior to number collection you will receive an SMS indicating your race number and number collection venue you selected on your entry form.
Please bring proof of payment of your entry, email confirmation or SMS confirmation with you to the number collection on Friday 28 November 2025 from 10:00 – 18:00.

Should you be unable to collect during this time, someone else can collect on your behalf, by providing your Race collection reference number & a copy of your ID number.
There will be NO collections on race day.

TIMING AND RESULTS
The results will be electronically produced on race day by the official chip timing system. Your timing chip will be placed on your race number. The race number must be worn on the front of your vest and visible at the finish line. There is a foam strip on the back of the race number. Please do not remove the timing chip and foam strip from the race number – doing so will result in NO finish time. For safety and timing purposes, ONLY the person assigned to this race number may use it.

• There will be no refunds of entry fees.
• No upgrades, downgrades and/or substitutions will be allowed at number collection or after 9 November 2025.

5KM FUN RUN: The fun run is an open event for licensed and unlicensed athletes.
Children under 9 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The start will be at at Eikestad Primary School. For safety reasons young competitors are requested to start near the back. The first 400 finishers will receive a medal. Dogs are not allowed.

Child Welfare South Africa Helderberg performs essential and continuous child protection services in Macassar, Sir Lowry’s Pass, Firgrove, Somerset West and designated surrounding areas of the Helderberg basin. Established on 18 February 1956, Child Welfare SA Helderberg is one of the longest running charities within the Helderberg basin.

Child Welfare South Africa Helderberg is an independently registered Non-Profit Organisation and PBO, and is affiliated to the National Child Welfare movement.

Our Mission is to promote, protect and enhance the safety, well-being and healthy development of children in the Helderberg community.

Our objectives encompass a range of critical services and initiatives aimed at supporting individuals affected by stroke. We are committed to offering an information and support service tailored to their needs, alongside initiatives promoting health, independence, and overall well-being. Through community-based rehabilitation programs, we empower stroke survivors on their path to recovery.

In our pursuit of stroke prevention, we prioritize increasing public awareness about stroke, its causes, and prevention methods, while also providing accessible, free preventative testing. We advocate for and promote healthy lifestyles as a fundamental aspect of stroke prevention. Additionally, our focus extends to training and skills development, offering comprehensive programs for volunteers, caregivers, community workers, and even stroke survivors themselves to provide effective support within their communities. We also prioritize training for health professionals, alongside providing skills development opportunities for staff and assistants involved in stroke care. Furthermore, we actively advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities and collaborate with health services and organizations to enhance medical and rehabilitation services for stroke survivors.

Finally, we contribute to stroke research efforts, supporting endeavours from various institutions that can yield benefits for our beneficiaries within the HSSG community.

PRIZE GIVING AND PRIZES
1. Prize giving for the half marathon will take place at the Eikestad Primary School and start between 09:30 and 10:00. Prize giving for the marathon will take place at the Eikestad Primary School and start between 11:30 and 12:00.
2. In addition to Overall (Open) prizes, participants will only be eligible for an age category prize in the age category they enter. TOG BAG FACILITY
There will be tog bag facility in the school club house. Bags dropped off at runners’ own risk and must be collected by 13:00 on race day.
(Please ensure that your bag is clearly labelled)

Helderberg Harriers and WPA do not take responsibility for lost or stolen items.

PERMANENT NUMBERS
The following awards will be handed out as runners who qualify for these prizes finish the race:
1. Permanent numbers for a 10th run; Unique “Wingerdstompie” trophies after 15 completed runs and Double laurel permanent numbers after 20 completed runs.
2. Entrants who have completed 9 Winelands marathons and will qualify for a permanent number, must please indicate as such on the entry form.

The following awards will be awarded at prize giving:
1. Permanent numbers for winning one of the categories (open, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+) for a 3rd time, Unique “Wynvat” trophies after 25 completed runs, Triple laurel permanent numbers after 30 completed runs and a special unique trophy after 40 completed runs.

PARKING
We arranged secure parking for vehicles. Parking is provided for 1500 vehicles in close proximity to the race venue. Security officials are on hand, to keep the vehicles as safe as possible. However, runners making use of these parking facilities must ensure that they do not leave any valuable items or personal belongings in their vehicles.
Parking marshals are on hand to direct race participants to these parking venues. Please obey and respect these parking marshals. Their assistance is invaluable in ensuring that all participants arrive at the race venue on time. Runners are requested to provide adequate time en route to the race to ensure that they arrive on time for the start of the event.
Please note that the owners of vehicles that park illegally, will be held liable by the local Traffic Officials.

Sportsmans Warehouse Winelands Substitution process:

The person substituting their entry needs to email info@topevents.co.za copying into the email the person that they are substituting with, giving permission for the new person to take over their entry.

Entry fees and payments need to be made between the 2 parties.

We will also require a copy of the entry confirmation with entry reference number.

Once permission has been received the person taking over the entry will receive a form to complete and send back to us.
