Take a Step Against GBV – November 2026

Following the success of the 2025 event, Smile FM is once again hosting its Take a Step Against GBV walk in November 2026.

Our goal is to attract an even larger field this year and, in doing so, increase the amount raised for organisations supporting survivors of Gender-Based Violence.

“You understand that it is in your hands to make a difference.”
— Nelson Mandela

The reality of GBV in South Africa is dire, with more than 1 in 3 women experiencing physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime.

Smile FM is committed to supporting survivors of abuse, and we are calling on Capetonians to come together and Take a Step Against Gender-Based Violence.

To find out more about how you can get involved in this important event – either as a sponsor or participant – please contact Lauren@smile904.fm or 021 818 8904.

Smile FM would greatly appreciate your support. Every step makes a difference.

The Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children (SBCWC) was opened in 1999 in response to the high rates of violence against women and children on the Cape Flats near Cape Town. We provide essential, cost-free services 365 days a year to abused women and children employing a comprehensive range of services for the effective treatment and prevention of violence against women and children.

We were the first ‘one-stop’ centre in South Africa.

The Saartjie Baartman Centre’s multi-disciplinary approach brings together various organizations to create a unified, on-site service delivery model. This model effectively manages, treats, and prevents violence against women and children, working collaboratively with government bodies and civil society organizations to advocate for the rights of victims and foster community-based solutions to end gender-based violence.
