The Khayelitsha Run returns on Sunday, 6 September 2026, at Mandela Park Stadium, Khayelitsha, bringing together athletes, families, fitness enthusiasts, and community supporters for one of the township’s most anticipated annual sporting events. Featuring a 10KM race and 5KM Fun Run, the event caters to both competitive runners seeking personal bests and families looking to enjoy an active day out. More than just a race, the Khayelitsha Run celebrates health, community development, and social connection while showcasing the vibrant spirit and resilience of Khayelitsha.

The vision of the Khayelitsha Run is to promote healthy lifestyles, encourage participation in sport, and create opportunities for community upliftment through meaningful partnerships. Participants can look forward to an exciting race-day atmosphere with engaging entertainment on the MTN Gig Rig, dedicated food stalls, and refreshing cool drinks available throughout the event. The race continues to grow as a platform that brings together residents, visitors, businesses, and stakeholders in a celebration of fitness, culture, and community pride. Attendees can also enjoy the event with peace of mind, as ample parking facilities will be available, supported by comprehensive security measures, event marshals, and the presence of Metro Police to help ensure a safe, secure, and enjoyable experience for all participants and spectators.

  1. The race is ran according to the rules of ASA & WPA.
  2. Participants in the 5km run under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. To enter the 10km run participants must be 14 years or older.
  3. Race numbers (bibs) will not be issued. All registered athletes must wear two valid licence numbers. Unregistered participants must purchase a temporary licence which must be worn on the front of the vest.
  4. Temporary Licence holders when registering must complete and hand in the tear off strip from the number in order to compete. Licence athletes should wear club colors. Full club colors must be worn to qualify for team prizes. Temporary licence athletes must run in clothing without advertising. Athletes must be SA Citizens and participate in a valid ASA licence to qualify for team prizes.
  5. Age category tags must be worn (front and back) and visible for the entire race to be eligible for any age category prize including Juniors.
  6. In 2025 Juniors are defined as born in 2006 or later (Under the age of 20 at year end).
  7. Entry cards. must be in the athletes possession during the race and handed in at the results board at the Finish.
  8. Prize-giving is at 09:00 AM – subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances / program structure.
  9. Do not litter. Dispose of sachets and cups responsibly by using the boxes provided or carry them to the Finish. Report offenders to the referees #RunClean.
  10. There are two water stations that are situated along the race. COCA COLA and water will be available at the designated locations.
  11. The use of music players with headphones is not allowed and may result in disqualification.
  12. Detailed rules are available on www.wpa.org.za or on request from the organizers or the WPA office.
  13. Wheelchair athletes must please contact the organizers timeously to discuss arrangements for their participation.
  14. DISCLAIMER: Participants in this event do so at their own risk and release and discharge the organizers, sponsors, provincial and national athletics bodies and all persons assisting in staging the event from any responsibility, liability or costs relating to any injury, loss or damage, of whatever nature, however caused, arising directly or indirectly from their participation in the event. Social walkers are welcome, medals to all finishers.
